Went to Triage as was feeling dizzy and had a constant headache on the Monday night, for bloods to come back and one of them had more than doubled in the space of three days, so as being a high risk pregnancy I was admitted.
The following morning I was told that I was going to be given two lots of steroids over the course of 48 hours with delivery by the end of the week because of the high level of concern that my body wasn't coping. Waited all day for the first set of steroids to be administered, 5pm came around and was told no we aren't giving them to you, we are just going to wait until tomorrow to see what the following morning's bloods come back as to see if they had increased.
The next morning came and the test had stabilised and no further action plan was given, was told to wait for the next day's bloods for an action plan.
The next morning came and the on ward doctor made a comment regarding my first pregnancy. The comment being - this is anything like your first pregnancy, you was supposed to deliver at 28 weeks with your first but let's be honest if we had of delivered she wouldn't be here today. Which in my opinion was uncalled for and unnecessary. I raised this with the midwife that was looking after me and also my consultant, who I later has an appointment with.
My consultant made a plan with myself regarding my stay on Ashgrove ward, being that they'd like to monitor myself over the weekend due to reduced movements of baby and bloods to see if the test had elevated any more over the coming days and didn't see the point of discharging me when I could be potentially admitted the following week depending on growth scan results with foetal medicine, which was fine as didn't want to upset my daughter at home by going home, was told I'd be left for a chilled day just to recover from the chaos at the beginning of the week.
The next day I had multiple consultants come and see me, multiple bloods taken and was told a lot of discussion etc was being done in the background with other teams at different hospitals. My test had elevated again, was told they'd monitor over the weekend. Also had a junior doctor come and speak to me regarding my mental health in front of another 3 beds and didn't ask if I wanted a private room for this so everyone in the room heard that I was struggling and the questions were very personal. They said they'd put a referral in and never heard anything after.
The next morning came, bloods were taken after ward round so didn't get reviewed once back, asked multiple times of the results in the late afternoon evening, nobody would tell me. Around 5.30pm I got a pain at the top of my bump on the right hand side, which I immediately informed the midwife that was looking after me as I had been instructed to do so regarding any new symptoms as being a high risk pregnancy.
Two midwives couldn't tell the position of baby as baby measures small anyways. FY2 doctor didn't come and see me until 9.45pm. They said that they hadn't checked my notes as they were too busy for that, so didn't have a clue about what's been happening with myself. They said that they couldn't tell where baby was laying and asked if she was small, which I confirmed, they said they couldn't tell where she is. They said that maybe baby had just kicked my liver and inflamed it but wasn't sure and prescribed stronger pain killers and to let the midwife know if the pain gets worse.
At this point paracetamol had done nothing and the pain continued for all the time I was waiting for a doctor so there is no doubt the pain will continue. I lost all my confidence and trust in the doctors in the maternity hospital as they don't think before they speak and I didn't feel they were considering my needs before they spoke. They were supposed to be looking after my health and wellbeing and my baby but it felt like they couldn't have cared less with the unnecessary comments, and to be told they don't have time to look at notes or compare to your previous pregnancies is hurtful and disrespectful. Both of these experiences have massively impacted my mental health and has left me with such a negative view of the maternity hospital.
