"Treated with politeness, care and dignity throughout"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / Minor Injuries

(as the patient),

I had been experiencing earache in my right ear for a few days and suspected the silicone cone of my hearing aid was stuck in my ear as when I changed them it didn’t feel right.  I removed the hearing aid but the cone was not there.  I had thought it might have fallen on the floor but couldn’t find it.

I phoned my GP who said they would contact the minor injuries unit as Arbroath Infirmary who would contact me to arrange an appointment.  Minor injuries unit contacted me within 15 minutes and offered me a choice of appointment times that morning to suit me.

I attended and was welcomed to the unit at reception.  I was called on time and a staff nurse asked me to explain what the problem was.  I explained that I had lost a silicone cone from my hearing aid but couldn’t find it on the floor and assumed it was stuck in my ear.  I felt very silly that this had happened but the nurse reassured me that this happened to many people and I shouldn’t worry about it.

She explained clearly what was going to happen, reassuring me that if it was there it wouldn’t take long to remove it. She checked my left ear which was clear but when checking my right ear she said she could see the cone.  She removed it explaining it would be a little painful but only for a few minutes.

I was very pleased with the whole situation from contacting my GP to attending the unit in Arbroath and was treated with politeness, care and dignity throughout.

Dear Gram53,

Thank you for taking the time to complete a Care Opinion about you recent attendance to Arbroath Minor Injuries. It's great to hear that you had a positive experience and the nurse was able to successfully remove the hearing aid section from your ear canal.

Calling the Gp first ensured that you were given an appointment to attend at a time that suited you rather than prolonged waits in what can sometimes be an overcrowded waiting room. It also meant that you were seen by the right person, in the right place.

I will ensure to inform the Minor Injury Team of your kind feedback.

Best wishes

Lauren
