My 6 year old son was admitted to the paediatric ward, via A+E, with a dental abscess. He was really unwell, with a high temperature, pain and significant facial swelling. The staff on the ward were kind and compassionate, and the medical team reviewed him quickly. He went to theatre for an emergency dental extraction and abscess drainage and was cared for by the most supportive team.
Back on the ward, one of the HCAs went above and beyond (I'm so sorry I can't remember her name) and ensured that the tooth fairy still visited even though we weren't at home. She made a tiny envelope with silver stars, and wrote a note from the tooth fairy saying how proud she was of how brave my son had been.
My son was absolutely delighted when he woke to find it, and showed everyone who visited once he was discharged home. This act of kindness really made a difference to what was quite a stressful experience-thank you!
"Amazing care on the paediatric ward"
