I have been very anxious for years worrying about my son with his alcohol and drug use. My son doesn't live at home but lives close by. He does not drink every day but when he starts he can't stop after a drinking session he will take drugs, this allows him to drink more, so he will stay up for 2 or 3 days at a time consuming alcohol and drugs. He is a very switched on person without the drink and drugs and is a lovely person when sober.
I stress about where he is what he is doing and constantly worry about the impact on his partner and children.
I was introduced to PSL by another member of the group, I have only been attending the group for about 6 weeks, however during that time I have felt so much better knowing I am not alone with this problem. It's nice to meet the lovely people in the group and chat about our loved one's addictions as well as how we are coping ourselves, we are never judged and can be completely honest and laugh about the things we have done and still do to stop this behaviour from our loved ones.
I would highly recommend any person who is in a similar situation to contact psl, it's one of the best things I have done to help myself.
My support worker is Barbara, I can talk to her about anything and be honest and even have a laugh about what I have done and sometimes continue to do about my son's behaviour, Barbara has given me ideas on how I can look after myself and continue my day with this constantly on my mind.
