"Long wait"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Arrived just after 1am. Still waiting to be dealt with at 11:50am. My autistic grand son has been experiencing pains in his chest. We saw the triage shortly after arriving and again around 9:30am. He was extremely worried about the pain and it is a measure of how worried he was that he tolerated this wait. This is not what the NHS was put in place for.

Dear corvusfp76

Thank you for sharing your experience of UHW ED.

I am sorry to hear of the long wait that you / insert person experienced when attending ED. Unfortunately, our services are under extreme pressures at the moment and our staff are working as quickly and safely as possible to see and treat patients. This will of course not help with an already worrying time.

If you would like to discuss the waiting times further then please contact our Patient Affairs team on the below details.

Dear corvusfp76,

Thank you for sharing this, and I’m truly sorry to hear about the distressing experience you and your grandson have had. Waiting nearly 11 hours—especially with a child in pain and with additional needs—is incredibly difficult and understandably upsetting.

Your grandson’s courage in enduring such a long wait, particularly while experiencing chest pain and heightened anxiety, speaks volumes about how serious the situation felt to him. This is not the level of service anyone should expect, and certainly falls below the standard we strive to deliver.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for your grandsons wait and I hope that he is feeling much better now.

Best wishes,

Julie.
