"Kind, Patient and Caring Member of Staff"

About: Paediatrics / Children's Outpatient Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I visited the department this week with my stepdaughter who was sent for bloods after an outpatient appointment.  She is extremely anxious about needles and has only had blood taken a couple of times before at the GP and both times it was quite an ordeal.

She wasn't expecting to have to get bloods this day so it caught her by surprise and she was really scared.  We were in the department for almost an hour before she eventually managed to have her bloods taken.  During this time we were with a lovely member of staff called Karen.  She was so kind, patient and caring - not once did I feel that she was feeling under pressure to get us done and out, as no doubt a queue was forming outside and her colleague would be having to manage these patients on their own.

She ensured that my stepdaughter knew exactly what was going to happen and was comfortable with that, giving her the option multiple times to go away and come back if she preferred on another day / time.

I would really like to thank her for her care and time as it wasn't an easy visit!

Dear Gilyk68

thank you for such lovely feedback. I am glad the outcome for your stepdaughter was positive.

I will ensure this is shared with Karen.

Many thanks
