About: Arthur Medical Centre

Firstly I tried to obtain a GP appointment for my wife this morning and the impression you are given is that the surgery is extremely busy and it’s difficult to obtain an appointment with a doctor then why when I attended the surgery at 9 to 9.30am there was not a single person waiting to see a GP ?

Two safety issues observed that require attention

1 Location of surgery van at the bottom of the ramp to the right causing a blind spot for pedestrians using the marked crossing point especially children stepping out into the path of vehicles exiting the front car park.

2 The steps leaving the front of the car park down to the road have been in poor condition for a long time leaving the potential for one of our more frail residents to possibly fall.

Happy for you to contact me on this feedback

Dear Patient, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for your practice. As we have intimated in previous responses to reviews, the number of people in the upstairs waiting room is not always an indicator of how busy the practice might be. We have 2 x separate waiting areas (one upstairs and one downstairs) and patients are generally spread across both areas. At the time of your visit, a practice meeting was taking place which some of the GPs attended, however I can confirm that 18 patient appointments took place with GPs or members of our nursing team over the time you advise you were in the building on Thursday. Over the five business days of last week, the practice provided 816 appointments in total and our current patient list size is approximately 9,020 patients. I hope you will be reassured that the practice is indeed, very busy. I understand however, that this might not be immediately visible to patients at Reception.

Thank you also for sharing your concerns re patient safety.

1) The practice does not own a van, although I assume that you are referring to the van owned by Amber Pharmacy, which is a separate business to the practice. I will pass your feedback in this regard over to the Pharmacy management.

2) We were aware of the condition of the steps, and had 'coned' the affected area to ensure that the hazard was clearly marked and could be avoided. The missing slab was booked to be repaired on 12th June and the issue has been remedied.

Thank you once again. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Practice Manager
