I attended the surgery for a routine cervical screening and left feeling deeply disheartened by the experience. I experienced significant discomfort during the exam and later fainted in the reception area - which has never happened over 20 years of having smears. The response to my being unwell focused too heavily on attributing my reaction to anxiety, rather than acknowledging the physical discomfort I’d described or offering practical support. I later emailed feedback about my experience to the practice, but never received a response, which has only added to my disappointment. I am seriously considering moving to another surgery where I hope to receive more patient-centred care.
