"Scolding in their approach"

About: Trauma and Orthopaedics (14- 16) / Orthopaedic ESP

(as the patient),

I was referred to orthopaedic department Wishaw General due to osteoarthritis in both knees, right knee advanced osteoarthritis which showed on an X-ray at Hairmyres Hospital and examination by my General Practitioner. I attended Wishaw General hospital, an orthopaedic Clinic. I was X-rayed by a radiologist who was helpful. Subsequently the consultant's consultation tended to be vocally critical about my weight, constantly going on about it. I am unable to walk distances due to the pain with the osteoarthritis and have restricted mobility. I am on painkillers every day and found their approach to be unhelpful, insulting and belittling to say the least. They over-emphasised my weight and were scolding in their approach rather than sympathetic to my pain and condition.

Dear scorpiosxb55

Thank you for sharing your experience of Trauma and Orthopaedics.

I am disappointed to read of the experience you had during your visit. I understand how this approach may have felt unhelpful.

If you would like to contact the Patient Affairs team so they can understand all the issues in more detail, and get back to you personally.
