"Giving birth at Altnagelvin"

About: Maternity care / Ward 48 (labour ward)

(as the patient),

Can't speak highly enough of the midwives who looked after us and helped me give birth. They were all caring and couldn't do enough for me despite being under pressure and busy. There was 1 midwife who looked after my delivery along with a student midwife, as well as a midwife who seemed to be head or simply years of experience who peaked in every now and again to check on us. They listened to me and never made me feel like I had to do anything I didn't want to. They made the unknown seem not as scary and made me feel fully supported.

The only negative or criticism I have is birthing partners aren't allowed in until 1pm the next day and it was a long stretch to be on your own as a first time mum. Simple things like lunch being served at 12pm but you're on your own with a brand new baby, it would have been easier if my partner was allowed in from at least 12pm.

Hi CubenJ76,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. I hope you and your family are well.

I wanted to thank you for taking the time to write this review. It means a lot to staff that you have done so. I am delighted to hear that you felt supported and listened to while you were here. Our midwives strive to provide high quality care, often in busy and stressful environments so it is wonderful that you have recognised their hard work.

In relation to your comment regarding Partner's visiting hours, I know we do relax the rules on an individual basis if needed. I am sorry that this didn't happen for you.

I wish you and your family every happiness for the future.

Kind Wishes,

Louise McReynolds,

Delivery Suite Manager.
