"Subpar clinic "

I will preface this review by mentioning that my CBT sessions were for the most part successful and positive. The psychiatrist was very warm and personable. However, for me, it's not the overarching experience of Maddison as I had to wait 10 months for the sessions and it was a largely negative experience. Again, I will admit for the most part they were competent in dealing with my medication. However, I arrived in Maddison obviously shortly after a crisis and still vulnerable. Whilst no one was hostile, I felt the majority of the staff members are incompetent at providing patients with warmth and empathy. I understand the NHS is generally dealing with many strains such as being understaffed and underfunded. Nonetheless, those are 2 qualities which are vital if you are working with those suffering with mental health issues. I actually found some of the actions and words said by staff rather damaging. I felt one doctor was accusing me of outright refusing medication when I simply said I was unsure. Furthermore, when I disclosed about feeling nervous about sharing my experience of psychosis with friends, one psychologist commented "don't scare your friends with your experience" (paraphrased). I was very taken aback by this, as the clinic should be destigmatising the condition and yet she did exactly the opposite. Very irresponsible and blatantly shows the shortcomings of the staff. Emotions aside, I often was struggling to get up and go to work due to fatigue and depression. Not once did they suggest even considering applying for PIP. I understand it is an arduous process and the chances of being rewarded it could have been slim. But this just shows how unsupportive the staff can be. The appointments are so clinical and just feel like staff are ticking off a box to show they're doing their job. I think some staff desperately need more intensive training.
