"Poor hand hygiene"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Out-of-hours GP service

(as a service user),

I attended OOH with my son.  He was examined both by a nurse on his arrival and then a registrar.  I was disappointed to see that neither of them washed their hands either before or after his examination, and the fact that they were wearing rings and watches.  Given the lessons we have apparently learned from COVID this was a very poor display of adherence to infection control policies and procedures.

Dear Hen2023,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion following your recent visit to the GP Out of Hours service at the Victoria with your son. I’m truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, particularly in relation to infection control protocols.

This is not the standard of care we strive to provide, and I would be grateful if you could contact me directly at lorna.fisher@nhs.scot to share more details. Your feedback is important and will help us to investigate the matter further and ensure we continue to improve the quality and safety of our service.

Warm regards,
Lorna Fisher
