"QEUH Maternity"

About: Maternity care / Maternity care (Ward 47)

(as the patient),

I just wanted to highlight the superb care I was given during my time at QEUH last month before, during and after our son was born. I was admitted on an evening in mid May for induction and received excellent care from all in Ward 47 - particularly from Lisa and Eve who were warm, supportive and caring especially when the induction process didn’t work as expected. I was listened to and absolutely supported with my decision to go for C-section by Dr Fiona, who was beyond excellent and really took my concerns on board when we realised I was not making any progress.

The whole C-section process was smooth and (dare I say it) enjoyable! Sean and his team on the early evening a couple of days latery (around about 7pm) were warm, professional and comforting which made me and my husband feel incredibly at ease during the whole process. Anaesthetist Lois was phenomenal, she spoke me through absolutely everything as it was happening and showed great humour and warmth to keep my spirits high. Everyone in that theatre was what makes everything great about the NHS, and their teamwork, professionalism and genuine care for their patients and for each other should be highly commended. I particularly want to say thanks to midwife Kelly (or Kerry?? So sorry adrenaline was high!) who was particularly invested in staying that little bit longer to see if baby was a boy or a girl - she was a breath of fresh air.

My after care on the theatre recovery ward was equally excellent and the midwife who cared for me (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name but it started with S!) was tremendous, especially when I needed a little check over due to some post surgery shakes. The fact that she didn’t hesitate to hold our wee boy when my husband and I just needed a wee moment to breathe and I could try and get some energy back is something i’ll appreciate forever (and my goodness, that tea and toast really was 10/10!)

After being taking up to ward 48, my great care continued. The ward was particularly busy and the warm weather meant it was very hot - but even so, the staff within the ward were at the top of their game and coped well with what must have been a demanding couple of shifts!

Thanks to you all for your care - I felt it was important to share such a positive experience!

Dear cmrsm,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such heartfelt words about your experience at QEUH. It means the world to hear how supported, safe, and cared for you felt throughout such a significant moment in your life.

We are incredibly proud of the entire team across the QEUH Maternity unit, the theatre staff, and everyone involved in your care. Your kind words about Lisa, Eve, Dr Fiona, Sean, Lois, Kelly (or Kerry!), and the midwives in recovery will be passed on personally—each of them will be individually thanked for the compassion, professionalism, and warmth they showed you and your family.

Your story is a powerful reminder of the impact that genuine care and teamwork can have. Thank you again for sharing it—it will uplift and inspire us all.

Warmest wishes to you and your family as you begin this new chapter together.

Best wishes

Gaynor
