"A positive C section experience"

About: Victoria Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Thank you to the team for everything in connection with our pregnancy and elective C section.

I was anxious about the delivery after an awful experience at another hospital with my first three years ago and birth trauma/PND afterwards. However, the staff at the Victoria were professional, showed compassion and genuine care.

I never once felt bad about ringing the buzzer during the night to help lift my baby out etc, which was something I was deterred from doing last time. I found the medical side to be very thorough, lots of monitoring and care taken. And unlike last time, I didn't feel rushed to get back on my feet quickly post-op, rather staff were very comfortable for me to go at a sensible pace, which I think has helped me recover quicker since.

My only suggestion for possible improvement might be that I sometimes found the breastfeeding support a wee bit critical rather than encouraging and positive - I don't think it was meant to come across like this, rather it was probably my interpretation because of previous bad experiences after my first child. But worth being sensitive to this kind of thing perhaps.

But, overall, thank you for what has been a healing birth experience in completing my family.

Hello castorjw63,

I am so pleased to hear that you have had a very different experience from your last pregnancy and birth at another board and that your care from us has met expectations and aided your healing. I am very proud of the services we have here in Fife and our Planned Caesarean section team is part of that. Although a very small team, they are extremely dedicated to ensuring they support women in their choices and supporting them throughout their care.

Thanks you for highlighting how you received breastfeeding support and advice. This is really helpful to know and I will share all messages with the teams involved.

Congratulations, I wish you and your family well.
