I recently visited the emergency department at Craigavon Area Hospital and was disappointed by some concerning issues in the triage department.
Firstly, nurses wearing long false nails raised serious hygiene concerns. From my understanding, healthcare workers should keep nails neatly trimmed to maintain proper hand hygiene. This practice seems to be overlooked here, which is worrying for a training hospital.
Secondly, the announcements over the tannoy system were difficult to understand. The gentleman operating it appeared to be chewing gum, making it hard for patients to catch important information. Clear communication is essential, especially in a busy emergency department.
For a facility known for training future healthcare professionals, I would expect better standards. I hope these observations are taken seriously to improve patient care and professionalism.
