I had fallen out the system for a number of years, not realising that my last MRI scan for my heart showed results of bad news.
Five years later I really started to feel the effects and came quite close to heart failure. I have Tetralogy of Fallot, which is a series of four heart diseases in one, mainly effecting the pulmonary valve.
I was due a replacement after some miscommunications with previous health care professionals, I'd normalised dangerous symptoms thinking my mental health was run down. I mentioned that due to this falling out of the system, had I not been in a&e a few weeks beforehand they might never have sent me an appointment out, but during my stay this time round was very pleasant given the circumstances.
I can only thank the care team and nurses for this. Some of my behaviour was very difficult to deal with due to adverse pain, discomfort and extreme exhaustion caused by the fact my pulmonary valve was extremely narrow and no blood was getting to my lungs, it would have only been a matter of time.
There is one nurse in particular I would like to give a fiver star rating to. This is because she is excellent at her job, very reassuring and supporting towards the patient and their loved ones, humorous polite and very understanding. Without her my battle would have been very unbearable but there were moments where she made it seem as though it was the best time to be in hospital.
She made my stay tolerable and given the circumstances, that takes a lot of a person to do. She has kept in touch, giving me contact information and reminded me several times that she has she had also shared this information with my mother in case she has questions of her own. I would like to give a huge thanks to Selina, the congenital nurse specialist from Aberdeen royal infirmary.
I could not have done this without the smile I had done without you highly recommended for anyone who has heart disease and is struggling or things are going wrong, even if your just overly exhausted.
