I was a runner and aware that I had Atrial Fibrillation. Last August I had serious attack of breathlessness and was in hospital overnight. The Consultant said cardioversion was the way to go and explained the procedure. I was given a blood thinner and beta blocker and sent home. Unfamiliar with hospitals I asked about the cardioversion after 4 weeks and told I was on 10 week waiting list! The procedure took place early February. About 4 weeks later I was told it had failed. I have since had a 'phone conversation with the Consultant and have had a 24 hour heart rate monitor fitted. All my interaction with Hairmyres Cardiology staff, doctors and nurses has been first class and positive.
