My child was admitted for day case surgery recently in the Royal Hospital for Children. The waiting arrangements were stressful - my child had to sit in the waiting room in their pyjamas and every time a member of the team arrived and took us to a side room (eg. Nurse, surgeon etc) they became more and more anxious because they thought it was time for the operation. When the time arrived to go for the surgery they went straight from waiting room to theatre.
I know some of this is related to layout, but there were many empty side rooms visible. Unfortunately my child was also offered food they are allergic to despite having an allergy band.
Staff were pleasant & professional, particularly a tall male health care assistant (whose name I didn’t catch) who was amazing - definitely in the right job!
I know some of the things I’ve listed are out with the control of staff and it is in no way a criticism of people who are clearly doing their very best, but I thought it was helpful to share in case any changes can be made to this setup.
