"Delay in results"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Radiology

(as a parent/guardian),

Referred following consultation with GP for a chest x-ray.

Fast efficient walk in service....however...

Several notices saying: If this is a GP referral, don't expect results before weeks minimum.

How can this be acceptable?

How is this cost effective?

So if you become sicker whilst waiting on your results you will cost the NHS more per night for a hospital bed because you can't get appropriate treatment due to delay in results, never mind risk to life .

Dear andromedady49,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback after your recent visit for an x-ray at University Hospital Hairmyres.

I am sorry to hear that you have needed to visit your GP.

I am glad you found the experience within the department quick and efficient.

Unfortunately as you state, the waiting times for x-ray reports are taking longer. GP's are aware of the delays in x-ray results.

This is due to the pressure within radiology, and we are currently working hard to bring these waiting times down.

I can only apologise and assure you we are making our best efforts to rectify this.

Kind regards

thankyou for your response. May I ask what steps you are taking to bring this “waiting time “ for results down as it has increased by 4 weeks in the last year.

My practice quotes it is currently nearer an 8 week waiting time for X-ray results.

Thanks

Dear andromedady49,

Thank you for your reply.

Due to the increased demand on radiology services, workforce shortages, and rising demand, we are outsourcing to external companies in order to alleviate workload pressures and reduce the waiting times for x-ray reports.

We are doing additional waiting list reporting sessions when staff are available to do so.

Once again, I apologise for any delay.

Kind regards,
