"Left with a broken bone for 3 weeks"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department University Hospital Monklands / Radiology

(as a relative),

A relative had a fall ended up in A&E as they'd just woken up on the floor.

Quite a few tests were ran.  Went for an x-ray and I waited in the room when they were brought back by the porter a comment was made to me saying they didn't think that it was done right - they were laughing and chatting to each other and put a board under the arm and it slipped, but carried on.

We returned to the hospital 3 weeks later as the pain was unbearable, a junior doctor came and suggested another x-ray asked if pain relief was required. Said yes but never got it, we had to stop my a chemist on the way home.

We were told after another x-ray, sorry we missed a broken radial head in the elbow, nothing can be done as it had been so long, and that it would be ok in a few weeks.

The pain is still unbearable and her age doesn't help. She is now really not well and is reluctant to visit Monklands hospital again.

Dear foxtrotzb65,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Monklands, emergency department and radiology.

I am sorry to hear that your elderly relative had a fall and had to attend ED. It is disappointing to hear that after 3 weeks you had to return with them and it was only then picked up that they had broken a bone. I am sorry to hear that no further treatment has been offered.

In order for us to investigate this further, please could you contact the patient affairs team so they can investigate this further and provide you with a personal response?

patientaffairs@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Best Wishes,

Jenni
