"Ignoring the pain of my elderly father"

About: Coventry Teaching PCT

(as a relative),

My father who is 77 years old has been in agony with constipation / blocked bowels since Friday. He went to a drop in centre in pain on Saturday and was waiting 2 hours before he was seen. Others who came after him were seen ahead of him which caused him further distress. He was finally prescribed some medicine - this has had no beneficial impact and tonight (Monday) he phoned me upset because he is still in agony, unable to eat or sleep. He had phoned his surgery in Coventry, in the morning as soon as they opened to see them and he was told the earliest he could see a doctor was Tuesday at 9:30. I phoned the out of hours line tonight to see if they could do anything and they called him in. When he got there he was in the same situation as on Saturday - every one else that was coming in after him was being seen to and he was left waiting As he was in too much discomfort to be sitting around my brother drove him home. I am utterly disgusted by this as my Father has high blood pressure and heart disease and is a carer to a mentally ill wife. Is this the great British NHS?
