"Breast cancer care"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I had bleeding from a nipple over Christmas and was quickly referred to the Breast Care centre at Lincoln hospital.

An ultrasound scan showed 2 cysts which were aspirated but the radiologist wanted to check the area again after this had been done. She was unsure about the area and took 3 biopsies. So thankful that she did as this confirmed a 10mm hormone led tumour which had not been visible.

An MRI was carried out and a further check of my lymph glands which had been a bit swollen at the first scan. The latter was found to be fine and was believed to have been caused by my having had my shingles jab 6 weeks before the original scan.

A successful lumpectomy was performed at the beginning of March. Tests revealed that the cancer hadn’t extended into my lymph glands but a further area of ‘non invasive’ cancer had been found which resulted in a second operation.

I am now awaiting referral to oncology for radiotherapy treatment.

Hi

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I’m so glad to hear the tumour was caught early and that your treatment has been progressing well. Wishing you strength and continued healing as you move on to radiotherapy.

Best wishes

The Breast Care team

Thank you for your response and good wishes. My radiotherapy starts in mid July and I have every expectation that they will be just as caring as the breast team.
