"Helped me understand the why behind my addiction, not just the what"

About: CGL Birmingham / North Hub

(as a service user),

Before I came to Cut Grow Live, I was in a dark place. I felt worthless and knew I needed to take control of my alcohol use. I’ll admit, I was sceptical at first—mainly because of the stigma that often surrounds addiction and recovery. But CGL proved to be nothing like the stereotypes I feared.

From the beginning, CGL provided a safe, welcoming, and completely non-judgemental space. The workshops are run by people with lived experience, which made a huge difference. They didn’t just talk at us—they understood where we were because they’d been there themselves.

In my time there, I’ve met some of the most caring, wise, intelligent, and strong individuals—people who have faced deep trauma but are still standing. That sense of community and shared strength gave me the support I didn’t even realise I needed.

CGL helped me understand the why behind my addiction, not just the what. That insight has been life-changing. I haven’t touched alcohol in over two months now, and for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m actually living. That live part in the name isn’t just a word—it’s real.

If anyone ever questions the value or effectiveness of this service, I can only say this: I am living proof. My life is priceless, and CGL helped me reclaim it.

If you’re reading this and thinking about taking that first step—do it. It transformed my life, and it could transform yours too.

Dear David362

Thank you for reaching out to us.

My name is Lydia and I am responsible for listening and responding to people's feedback.

As I read your story I found it incredibly inspiring. I’m aware it takes a lot of courage to confront an addiction, especially when you’re battling feelings of worthlessness. What you have shared shows how open you were to change despite being sceptical, which in itself makes everything you have achieved even more notable.

I’m so glad that the safe and non-judgemental space you found, as well as connection with people who truly understood you, made a profound impact on your experience. And it was great to hear that our service helped you to understand the “why” behind your addiction as this is so important and a major step toward lasting recovery.

The fact that you haven’t touched alcohol in over two months is a huge achievement, and your message provides a strong sense of hope. You are living proof, just as you said. And your story will no doubt inspire others who are standing where you once stood, wondering if they can change too.

Please be assured, I have shared your kind feedback and story of recovery across our service, including the North Hub Team, which has been greatly appreciated by all.

Thank you once again for getting in touch with us and I wish you all the best for the future. Our futures are not defined by our pasts, but the choices we are making today. And it's clear to see that you are choosing life. Keep going and feel proud every single day!

Best wishes and take care,

Lydia
