"Cardiac Recovery"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Interventional Cardiology Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiac Rehabilitation

(as the patient),

In the latter part of 2024 I had begun to feel a bit unwell. I was feeling lethargic, chest pain, odd spasm feelings in my upper body and then a week before Christmas I took myself to A&E and was taken to the Golden Jubilee with unstable angina and had angioplasty.

Prof Eteiba undertook my angioplasty and was immense, Dr Rocchiccioli took great care of me on the ward and my Cardiologist Dr Shaukat have been truly tremendous in my care prior and post angioplasty. I cannot thank them enough as well as the amazing staff at the GJNH in the Cath Lab and in CCU.

Post Angioplasty, I have spent 12 weeks in Cardiac Rehab at the QEUH and a further 4 weeks as part of the walking group to maximise cardiac gain and I plan on continue to go to the evening exercise sessions when my work schedule allows as the Cardiac Rehab group have truly transformed how I feel now.

I have gone from a nervous wreck full of anxiety, zero strength and zero belief in myself and over the weeks Theresa, Craig, Helen and Max (who is an absolute star physio student) have transformed me and given me the confidence to get back to my normal levels. I still have work ahead of me but they have given me the foundations to move on, look forward and keep pushing myself. The camaraderie, compassion and sharing of stories with patients at the classes who have undergone similar issues made you feel you could be listened to and there was a sense of belonging.

I formed some very good relationships and I will always cherish my time at cardiac rehab in the QEUH. Without this group I am not sure where I would be in terms of recovery but I would not be anywhere near the levels I am now as it has allowed me to have confidence and strength to get back to my job which entails a lot of travelling.

I am truly grateful and blessed to have come across so many amazing people during my journey. I wish them all nothing but the best.

Hello Nav22

Many thanks for taking the time to send this amazing feedback for the teams who looked after you at the Golden Jubilee, and at our Cardiac Rehab Service here at the QEUH.

I've passed your above feedback over to Dr Rocchiccioli, Dr Shaukat and Prof Eteiba at the GJNH who I am sure will be delighted to hear of your excellent recovery and their involvement in this, not only at the beginning but with the after care you mention too.

Our Cardiac Rehab team at the QEUH, in particular the staff who were involved in your care - Theresa, Max, Helen and Craig - are grateful for your thanks and feedback, especially for student Physio Max - feedback like this is so beneficial for his learning and professional development.

You have encompassed all the true values of our service above - compassion, camaraderie, good relationships with other patients and staff, a sense of belonging, physical recovery and of course mental strength and return of confidence.

It's great to hear that you plan to stay actively involved with us at the evening classes, and that you've been able to get back to your job!

We wish you all the very best in your continued recovery.

Best wishes

Anne
