"After stroke care and physio / rehab"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Rehabilitation Specialist Therapy Services / Community Stroke Team – South Notts

(as the patient),

After spending 7 weeks in hospital the amazing team at city hospital Nottingham managed to get me to a stage where I could come home with a downstairs exist stance and be placed in to the hands of community stroke team

The team consisted of morning and evening care to help with personal hygiene and assist with dressing myself giving valuable advice on techniques of ways of doing things making it less difficult/tiring to do

The team also helped me to become independent to make myself breakfast and a cup of tea once again with valuable advice and techniques of carrying out the task

Also within the team physiotherapy visits helped me improve my strength and ability to negotiate everyday tasks ie getting up and down the stairs/walking and getting up and down from my sofa of which I struggled with due to fatigue

The daily task exercises I was left to do was hugely helpful with some other parts of my limbs that were effected by my stroke

This part of the team really improved my ability to confidently carry out tasks that I would probably have not accomplished at this point so a huge thank you to Bethan and Ian

This brings me to the mental/cognitive help I received, at times I was feeling very low and deflated at my progress and unappreciative of the position I was at and all I saw was a long empty road and that I was at a position that I was going to be at for the rest of my life

But all the team including Michael gave me such hope and encouragement that things were going to take time but will achieve most of the things I need to and it happened I was back driving my car

Overall my journey has been a long up and down tears of sadness and joy but the community stroke team has been a huge help in to taking the next steps after coming home from hospital to coping and rehabilitate to a confident level

Many thanks to all the team

regards
