"Support after surgery"

From the very early days after my brain surgery we realised that one of my vocal cords was paralysed. I received excellent, caring support in the hospital from Rachel, who gave me exercises, a device to help me speak louder and her time to chat through how to go forward. I was devastated by the loss of my natural voice but was met with kindness and care.

Once discharged from hospital, I had speech and language with Saba. She again gave me achievable goals to help strengthen my vocal cords. I felt listened to and heard and was thankful to be given proactive ways to make life a little easier. There had always been a discussion about a vocal cord injection so we decided to arrange a private appointment with Dr Adamson to discuss this option. I was finding the weakness of my voice incredibly debilitating, especially as my profession is teaching and I love to sing. It was arranged to have my vocal cord injection in November on the NHS and, what a difference it made!

I was then transferred to Georgina who was another amazing support to me. She gave me new exercises, more suitable for someone who had had the injection. She gave me goals and was so positive about my voice and the progress. I am incredibly thankful for the support I received from this very committed and knowledgeable team. My voice is so much stronger and I’m back singing in my chorus, which is amazing. I’m adjusting to a weaker voice but am thankful for the progress and exercises given.
