Our friend arrived from abroad very poorly and we took him to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He was admitted. As soon as he was well enough to travel we wanted to get him on a flight home. His treatment was fine although they didn’t give him anything to eat from Saturday until Wednesday, for no apparent reason. It was like trying to get blood from a stone to get any information. We explained we needed to arrange a flight so we needed notice before discharge. We were kept in the dark. We were told to be at the hospital for nine on the Thursday morning as there was a meeting to discuss his condition. Up to this point we were told he needed some treatment before he could fly safely. We arrived at 8.50 to be told he would be discharged at 12. The total lack of information was extremely stressful and we couldn’t make any ongoing arrangements. His wife the previous day had expected to at least be here over the weekend and had meds posted out to us which we are still waiting for. They made a bad situation far worse for us. I appreciate they’re very busy but each time we visited it seemed chaotic. You stood waiting to speak to someone and they looked through you as if you weren’t there. If you phoned there was always an excuse the person we needed to speak to was on a break etc. The treatment was poor.
