"By improving communication, time and money could be saved"

About: Diabetic Eye Screening / Whiteabbey Hospital Whiteabbey Hospital / Outpatients Department

(as a service user),

Today I attended an appointment to have my blood taken at Whiteabbey outpatients clinic. I had to drive up from Larne to give one vial of blood despite a clinic being held 5 minutes away from my home. The staff were excellent and professional and I could not fault them. However when I returned home I received a letter for an appointment I’ve already cancelled. This is the third time I’ve cancelled (at my appointment a month ago I was told I was low risk and wouldn’t need to be seen for at least a year). These appointments despite my cancelling them are then recorded as ‘did not attend’. I also need to be seen for an eye appointment which I am not allowed to drive myself to, there is no public transport to and I have no one to drive me. I recognise that the NHS is overwhelmed but by improving communication and accessibility a lot of time and money could be easily saved.

Dear frustratedinLarne. I am so sorry to hear of your recent experience. Would you be able to complete a user feedback form so that we can look into the specific issues you have raised please as it is important that we learn from our patients feedback? Regards Rebecca
