"Security at Forth Valley Renal Unit"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Renal unit

(as the patient),

I am currently undergoing dialysis at Forth Valley Renal Unit. Over the last couple of months, on 2 occasions someone other than a patient or a nurse has gained access to the unit. There are currently 2 female nurses on duty looking after 5 patients. When these unauthorised people gained access to the unit obviously the staff asked them to leave, which they did, thankfully. However, if they had had other intentions, not only would the staff been at peril, but by the nature of our treatment we would not have been able to help. When I asked the staff how they gained entry I was told the entry system was broken and they were unable to lock the outside doors. From a safety standpoint I find this worrying and puts the staff at risk. Surely this needs investigated before a serious incident occurs.

Thank you for your response and highlighting this to us

We have spoken to Security, they are physically doing checks at Renal at 8pm every night

Staff are also all aware to check doors as well, and report if they are not securely locked, to ensure that this does not happen again.

Many thanks

Sally
