"Allergy Clinic"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Asthma and Allergy Service

(as a parent/guardian),

We attended the children’s OPD for allergy clinic. From start to finish we had the most positive experience.

We saw Dr Glancy first and she had an holistic approach to our son’s care. She took time to listen to our story, our concerns and how his allergies have impacted us. During Dr Glancy’s consultation we felt listened to, and that she really cared about our son! Her knowledge and experience really showed, as did her passion for her job! She ensured my husband and I had opportunities to ask questions and express our concerns.

We then had testing done with Sr Barbara with the help of another nurse (whose name I didn’t catch). Barbara made us feel at ease during a daunting time. She interacted and played with my son as if he was her own child, and her passion as a children’s nurse was very obvious! During a blood test both nurses were happy to sing along with me to try and calm my son. While helping calm my son, they also helped calm me! Barbara went through our allergy action plan in detail, allowing us to ask questions, it felt like a truly individualised experience!

We left our appointment with a clear plan, aware of what the next steps were, and when and how we would get results. Excellent communication all round!

Being a parent who is also a healthcare professional, can be very daunting being on the other side, allowing others to carry out procedures on your child. However, we felt that everyone we met truly cared about our son. We felt safe with their experience and knowledge. We felt like they didn’t just focus on our son’s allergies, but approached him as a person, and as our son; a truly holistic, family centred approach!

Dear Mumto1

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of attending the allergy clinic with your son. We are truly delighted to hear that you felt the care provided was holistic, family-centred, and tailored to your individual needs.

It's wonderful to know that the blood testing process was handled with such care and the distraction techniques helped to make you and your son feel more at ease. Your kind words about Sister Barbara and Dr Glancy are deeply appreciated - their passion, dedication and expertise are at the heart of the service we strive to provide.

We're especially pleased that you felt listened to and left with a clear plan. Feeling safe and supported is so important, and it means a great deal to know our team helped you feel that way.

Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback - we will be sure to share it with the team. I trust your son is keeping in good health.

Kind regards

Karen
