We attended the children’s OPD for allergy clinic. From start to finish we had the most positive experience.
We saw Dr Glancy first and she had an holistic approach to our son’s care. She took time to listen to our story, our concerns and how his allergies have impacted us. During Dr Glancy’s consultation we felt listened to, and that she really cared about our son! Her knowledge and experience really showed, as did her passion for her job! She ensured my husband and I had opportunities to ask questions and express our concerns.
We then had testing done with Sr Barbara with the help of another nurse (whose name I didn’t catch). Barbara made us feel at ease during a daunting time. She interacted and played with my son as if he was her own child, and her passion as a children’s nurse was very obvious! During a blood test both nurses were happy to sing along with me to try and calm my son. While helping calm my son, they also helped calm me! Barbara went through our allergy action plan in detail, allowing us to ask questions, it felt like a truly individualised experience!
We left our appointment with a clear plan, aware of what the next steps were, and when and how we would get results. Excellent communication all round!
Being a parent who is also a healthcare professional, can be very daunting being on the other side, allowing others to carry out procedures on your child. However, we felt that everyone we met truly cared about our son. We felt safe with their experience and knowledge. We felt like they didn’t just focus on our son’s allergies, but approached him as a person, and as our son; a truly holistic, family centred approach!
