"Left to manage my own symptoms"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was listened to and cared for by my GP. Due to findings on a scan and raised CA125 I was referred for 2 week referral to ULHT.

I arrived at my appointment and seen by a consultant. Unfortunately I left that appointment very disappointed. I do not feel I was listened to and that my diagnosis and treatment plan had been planned before I had entered the room. I was diagnosed recently with endometriosis by one scan. The only treatment offered was medication which I explained the rationale as to why I did not wish participate with. I do not feel a full history that was in depth taken.  Or my wishes or thoughts were asked on the situation. The consultant apologised for yawning through the consultation. I feel a very basic history was taken. There was no questions on bowel/urine pain scoring. I asked about pain but as it was on the opposite side to findings on the scan, shoulders were shrugged and I don’t know why it’s there. There was no professional curiosity as to why the pain could be in an alternative place or an interest in that.

I had an internal examination but I don’t know why or what they were looking for? As I chose not to take the medication my option left was to mange the symptoms myself. I was not given information on the drugs advised or time to consider the side effects against the positives. Maybe give you patients information so they are able to make an informed decision on their own care prior or after consultation. As I have been left to manage my symptoms on my own, I feel a safety plan should have been in place. Red flags and sign posting to whom could support if concerns arise. My care was not undertaken with the patient and I felt like I had wasted my time and the Dr.
