"Automatic doors only in OPD1"

About: Causeway Hospital

(as a service user),

Within the Northern Trust there are automatic doors . Having attended appointment for MRI and xray on both causeway and Antrim sites there is a difference on the two sites .

Within the Causeway hospital building automatic doors are only in situ at OPD1 .

The rest of the ground floor and first floor where wards are do not have automatic doors doors .

As a wheelchair user this is not continuity over your Trust sites .

Portering staff have commented on the usefulness of the doors that are automatic when trying to get beds into and out of wards. Also relatives helping patients use the wheelchairs provided by Trust at entrance doors find them useful.

Why does Causeway Hospital have different accessibility than Antrim ?

Hi HelenL1,

Thank you for providing your observation and query regarding automated doors in Antrim and Causeway Hospitals.

I can confirm that all Antrim Hospital template doors where standardised to automatic and fitted with the same access control for continuity and security a few years ago.

Full automation of all access doors throughout Causeway Hospital would be our ideal goal however due to funding constraints it has not been possible to achieve this to date. The position is being kept under review and as funding becomes available further doors will be automated on a prioritised basis.
