When I first arrived I had a lot of pain in my hip and going down the back of my leg to my knee, my sleep was interrupted every night and I was needing to get up to move about to ease the pain so wasn't getting any good rest. I would get up in the morning and be so tired. I didn't want to sleep during the day as I though I'll definitely not sleep at night. I was within my last few months of work before retirement and felt is this going to be my life now when at last I have time to myself, am I not going to be able to do anything?
My first appointment was with the GP at Ederney Surgery, at which I was prescribed medication, and on taking this there was no change. I rang in and asked for a physio appointment which I got with Liz. Liz then explained to me that I had sciatica, and gave me a list of exercises which I did, and used my medication alongside.
On my next appointment with Liz she suggested that I take a stronger medication, that I had for previous neck and shoulder pain which I was taking as and when required. So taking this stronger medication gave me ease along with the exercises.
This has been ongoing 2-3 months now and I am now beginning to feel normal again. What made a big difference was the fact that Liz explained to me what to expect, so I felt less fear about my symptoms.
Now I feel as if there is going to be an end to this and I will get back to normal, and enjoy my retirement - walking and dancing!
