"Birth of our first baby - the staff were wonderful"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

Finally getting around to writing about our experience. I had my first baby at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital in January and want to say a huge thank you to the staff. Not just for the birth but also antenatally including scans and postnatal too.

My birth was not how I planned with an induction for reduced fetal movements and a forceps delivery. I originally planned to have a midwife unit birth but the midwives had already read my birth plan and made sure the labour ward room was as close to this as possible before I arrived.

Following delivery I also suffered a postpartum haemorrhage.

I want to thank the midwives and doctors for keeping the situation as calm as possible for me and ultimately keeping me and my baby safe. I was unaware of the PPH until things were under control and will forever be thankful for this. Whilst I still have good and bad memories of my birth I don’t feel it was traumatic as a result of the doctors professionalism and calmness.

The staff on labour ward have really restored my faith in the NHS after some not so great experiences over at ARI last year. Please pass on our thanks to Amelie, Charlie, Bethany, Connie, Alice, Kay and student midwives Robyn, Metty and Isla for being so supportive throughout our birth, plus doctors Natalie and Ashleigh for getting our little girl here safely.

Hi hiacmd052831

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I'm sure that the last 5 months have flown by! I know how busy those first months can be, so thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

I'm sorry to hear that your birth experience was not what you had hoped for. I am heartened to read that the care you received here has restored your faith in the NHS. This is so lovely to hear, and I will make sure that your comments are shared with all of the named staff involved in supporting and caring for you during this time.

Best wishes,

Jo
