"Care, kindness, compassion and understanding"

About: Maternity care / Consultant Led Unit Maternity care / Maternity Ward Maternity care / Midwife Led Unit

(as the patient),

Would just like to say a thanks to the wonderful midwives who took care of me during the birth of my daughter.  It wasn’t the easiest and ended in an emergency c-section but the care I received was second to none.

I’d like to make a special mention to Emily who took great care of me during induction and to Rebecca who never left my side and stayed with me from MLU to CLU. A true angel who came back the next night to make sure we were okay after she heard about my emergency section.

To Abbie who looked after me the day our little girl was born, who kept me calm, advocated for me and provided the best care during a long day. A credit to herself and her profession. A real life angel.

To Jill the SCM who kept a steady eye on us and escalated us at the right time.  A photo captured during theatre shows just how dedicated you are and how much you love your job.

To the SCM who looked after us on the NS and came back the next night to see us, thank you. I’m so sorry but I can’t remember your name.

My consultant and the reg were fantastic, as were the theatre team who all provided calm and reassurance during a scary time.

A special mention to Lee the ODP who made me laugh and smile before, during and after theatre. It takes a special kind of person to make someone laugh when they are utterly terrified.

Being a healthcare professional myself, it's always hard to be on the other side, but I have never been more proud or grateful for our wonderful NHS. Everyone I met was kind, caring and compassionate and it makes me so honoured to be part of such a wonderful group of individuals.

Although my birth didn’t go as planned, it was made so much easier by the care, kindness, compassion and understanding I was shown during a really vulnerable time. Our little girl was born healthy and that’s all I could have hoped for.

Hi Fellowcolleague1,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. We are glad to hear that she is happy and healthy and thriving.

We are very proud of our Induction pathway and the team who steer this service. I will share your lovely praise and thanks with Emily via email.

I will also share with Rebecca within the MLU. The team always are tickled pink when they receive feedback.

Jill is on today and I shared your message, and she was very pleased and hoped she had a good hair day for her photo lol.

Abbie was also on today and was very touched and wished me to express her best wishes for your family life together.

I will share your beautiful words with the team leads for the medical and Odp teams to share with the individuals also.

We appreciate that an emergency caesarean section was not what you had planned for your birth experience but we are thankful you sharing as can assure others even when things are not according to plan it can still be a caring, supportive experience.

Kind regards

pamela higgins
