"It was the first time that we felt heard"

About: Children and Young People Services / Autism Services

(as a service user),

We were referred to Family therapy to help us deal with having a neurodivergent young person in our family.

We met with Anthony at the Oaks in Armagh over a number of weeks. We were given the space and time to discuss the issues that arise parenting a young person with Autism.

It was the first time in a long and difficult journey that we felt heard. We felt that we were understood and given the ability to discuss things openly to see what we were doing well and where there were opportunities for a different approach.

It has had a major impact on improving our mental health and the overall functioning of our family.

Hello Esther124

Thank you for getting in touch about your positive experience with Autism Services. It is lovely to hear that you felt listened to by Anthony and had time and space to think about the things that you were doing well alongside new approaches. I will pass on your message to Anthony and ensure he knows the positive impact family therapy has made to your family's functioning and mental health, while supporting a neurodivergent young person. We wish you all well as you continue with this journey.
