(as the patient),

I recently had my baby in the Princess Royal Maternity Glasgow and I wanted to share my thoughts (apologies about my lack of names of staff to pass on praise).

I went to maternity triage in the early hours after calling to say my waters had broke. We were greeted by a lovely midwife called Erin who explained everything that was going to be done and a lovely Dr who saw me very promptly again explaining everything in detail - giving me info, time and space to think over the choices I had to make (that I really really appreciated - felt well informed and not rushed!)

Later headed to ward 72 where a really lovely midwife settled me into my room and got me sorted with everything I needed.

Later that day I had a c section and honestly every single staff member were incredible! So nice and calming! The anaesthetist was just amazing, I felt so calm during the whole surgery!

The midwives in recovery again were just so amazing - I like that the same midwife takes you to surgery stays there and takes you back I really liked that continuity.

On the ward (68) that night the staff - I’m sure it was Donna and Gemma - were so attentive and so helpful! Spent so much time with me trying to help my baby latch and never rushed away. I’m certain they were so so busy but they never let on and really took the time to help.

I had fabulous student midwives the entire time too they are a real credit to their universities!

Overall my goal with this pregnancy/birth was to be in hospital for the least amount of time because I can’t stand hospitals (being a patient mainly) but everyone created such a lovely calm, welcoming environment that I honestly wouldn’t of been heart broken if I had to stay another night. I did not feel rushed out at all I was ready to go and happy I was cleared to leave - I got a lot of information before I left, was made aware of all the contacts available to help me once I’m home! I also got a visit from the breast feeding buddies and she was really helpful too!

Thank you so much to everyone involved in my care - you’ve really changed my mind about maternity hospitals and I could not fault a single thing!!

Dear foxtrotft84

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful and detailed experience at the Princess Royal Maternity in Glasgow. We are absolutely delighted to hear that your care from start to finish was so positive, reassuring, and empowering — especially during such a significant and personal moment in your life.

It's wonderful that Midwife Erin and the doctor in triage helped you feel informed and supported right from the beginning, and that each step of your journey — from Ward 72 to theatre, recovery, and Ward 68 — was handled with such professionalism, kindness, and compassion. Your comments about the anaesthetist, continuity of care from midwives, and the incredible support with breastfeeding are especially appreciated, and we’re pleased to hear how much that meant to you.

We’re also thrilled to hear how impressed you were with the student midwives and the breastfeeding support team — we will ensure your kind words are passed on, as this feedback makes such a difference to staff and students alike.

It’s clear that the team helped create a calm, welcoming environment that challenged your expectations of hospital care — we’re so grateful you took the time to let us know.

On behalf of everyone involved, thank you again for your heartfelt message, and we send our warmest congratulations on the birth of your baby!

Wishing you and your family health and happiness in the days ahead.

Kind regards

Kevin
