I wish to express my deep gratitude to the NHS for all their care leading up to and following my surgery for bowel cancer. Dr Seenan carried out my colonoscopy with no discomfort at Gartnavel and Mr Shapter and his team my surgery at the QEUH. Between these appointments I had scans and iron infusions at the QEUH, the New Victoria and Stobhill. I was always treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

The colorectal nurses and their coordinator were at the end of the phone to answer questions and help with appointments. Mags, one of the nurses, was present at my first appointment with Mr Shapter and later explained the support available to me. She also visited me on the ward. I spent four nights in ward 9A, where I was well looked after by all the staff. I have already had a follow-up appointment with Mr Shapter, who has been so kind and considerate.

I really could not have had better care – the NHS was certainly there for me when I needed it.

Hi Aunty Betty,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write, despite your recovery from surgery, letting us know how well your care was during your patient journey from your colonoscopy to your surgery for bowel cancer.

I am delighted to read that your experience during your colonoscopy was a very positive one and I will certainly pass on your thanks to Dr Seenan and the nursing team at Gartnavel General Hospital. I am also very pleased to hear that your surgery under Mr Shapter went well.

Take care and hope the rest of your recovery goes well.

Thank you again.

Margaret Barlow

Dear Auntie Betty

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience on Care Opinion.

We are delighted to hear that your care, from diagnosis through to surgery and recovery, was delivered with the compassion, dignity, and professionalism that every patient deserves. It’s especially heartening to hear that Dr Seenan, Mr Shapter, the colorectal nurses, and the wider teams across Gartnavel General, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, the New Victoria, and Stobhill all played such a supportive role during what we know is a very challenging time.

We will ensure your message is shared with all those involved in your care, including Mags and the Ward 9A staff, who will be so pleased to know the positive impact they had on your journey. Your feedback is not only a credit to their dedication but also a reminder of the vital importance of compassion and continuity in healthcare.

Thank you once again for your kind words. We wish you continued strength and good health in your recovery.

Kind regards

Kevin
