My husband was admitted to the accident and emergency (Royal Preston Hospital) department overnight with difficulty breathing.
He was moved through to urgent care and then finally to same day emergency care department.
We felt we were looked after by the staff in the department. They kept us informed as to what was happening. My husband received three nebulisers, a chest x-ray, urgent blood tests, peak flow monitoring and two ecgs. The sister in charge kept us informed about what was happening and the registrar was informative. He was reviewed by the consultant on call who explained everything about my husband's case and answered all our questions. We were given food and drinks whilst on the ward and really felt looked after and cared for although the department was very short staffed and extremely busy.
My husband was discharged the same day to the Virtual Respiratory Ward.
They rang twice on the day after discharge to make sure my husband was ok and to relate the plan of action. We were given telephone numbers for emergency and clear instructions by staff what to do if we needed help overnight. New medication was sent to our home address so that we didn't need to attend the hospital to collect it.
My husband was contacted daily until his discharge on 01 June 2025. Again he was given clear instruction as to his follow up in the Asthma Clinic in due course and given contact numbers if we need assistance.
Overall, the service has been the best we have received in a long time and has put our faith back into the medical profession.
Thanks for the amazing care.
"Well looked after"
