"My child being treated for Osteosarcoma"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Play Services

(as a service user),

In March 2024 my daughter Sophie was diagnosed with bone cancer. They found a tumour just above her left knee after a routine X-ray days after she had a tumble at rugby.

She had to go through 10 months of chemotherapy and was in the hospital more than at home. She also had to have her left knee amputated, a procedure called a rotationplasty.

This was the worst time of our families lives and we struggled to cope with it all, but Sophie just got on with it, never moaned, never asked why me? She was so brave throughout it all.

Dear Bailey2705,

Thank you for taking the time to share Sophie's story to this platform. I am sorry that she has been through such a terrible experience but it sounds like she is a very strong and resilient young lady.

It must have been a long journey for you all as a family, but Sophie obviously gets her resilience and strength from her family.

I wish you best wishes for the future.

Kind regards

Margaret McEwan

Play Services Co-ordinator
