About: Crosshouse Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I had a hernia operation. The surgery went well but I feel I was not supported on discharge.

Stayed in for 1 night as I live alone. Was being sick all night but not given meds or advice about it going home. Did not have a chance to see a doctor about the very bad bruising from the cannula in my hand.

I don't think the nurse led discharge is good enough.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided within the Day Surgery Unit, University Hospital Crosshouse

I am very sorry to read about the situation you have described. Please be assured that this is not the person centred care that we strived to provide within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Whilst we always aim to provide care that is person centred, we do recognise that sometimes we get it wrong. When we do, we are committed to learning and improving and hearing experiences, good and bad, directly from our patients is one of the best ways for us to capture this valuable feedback.

I have highlighted your comments about the nurse led discharge to the Service Manager so that your observations can be shared within the Team for reflection on how they can improved this situation for further patients.
