I approached my GP at Galston medical practice because I thought I might be autistic. She listened to me, was very understanding and completely made me feel heard. I was then put on a waiting list and in the meantime, supported by a member of the mental health team. She was also lovely and very supportive, helping me to prepare the right evidence etc for seeing a psychologist. It was a long wait to get to see the psychologist, but it was worth it.
My psychologist, Dr Macintosh, worked with me for over a year, both while we completed the autism diagnostic process and afterwards. I can honestly say she has changed my life. All the issues that I have had throughout my whole life have now been made sense of and I have felt like a much happier and more confident version of myself over the past two years since then. I just wanted to say thank you and also to emphasise how important the adult autism diagnostic service is.
