"Completely unfriendly and unprofessional staff"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day Care Unit (Ward 1c)

(as a parent/guardian),

Come in to ward trying to get a urine sample for my son. On which we had already been trying to 4 hours before. My son had a severe case of diarrhoea which got into sample pot. When my partner went and told the nurses and health care support works at the nurse station, they looked at him like he was crazy for even telling them, two of them even laughed  and they didn't appear to care less.

When he got back to the room, my son then vomited everywhere all over me, him, chairs and floor. We buzzed the buzzer for help as we needed stuff to clean it up and a new sample pot. To which the health care support worker came in, turned buzzer off and said they would tell the nurse he was sick, no offer of help or even care.

I then went out to the nurse station to ask for a sample pot. I was told the nurse would be right in. I then returned to the room, cleaned the sick up completely. While my son had another lot of diarrhoea. At this point nurse and health care support worker came in, still with no sample pot and telling us we could leave the cleaning. There was no apology for the lack of care they took 20 minutes to come into a room and help.  A job they are paid to do. In which they seemed too busy interested in socialising with each other at the nurses station rather than care about their patients.

The 2 times the nurse came into the room, they made no effort in trying to speak to my son, we had to ask if his obs were ok rather than them telling us. Completely unfriendly and unprofessional staff.

Dear Hannahmary29

I am so sorry to hear of the experience you had in the ward and the care and attention your son received. I would like to apologise for this and ensure that we will share your concern with the team involved.

Can I clarify what ward/area your son was in when this occurred and I will get back to you with the outcome of the discussion with the staff.

Kind regards

Diane King
