"Autism Diagnosis Report"

About: Borders General Hospital / Paediatrics (Ward 15)

(as a parent/guardian),

Disappointed in the service we have received.

1st appointment through health visitor was great, they were brilliant and put the referral in back in September 2023.

I then received a phone call from the Nursery Nurse a few weeks later to say they were going into our little girl's Nursery to assess her there as well. I received a text letting me know the outcome.

Following from that was a phone call from OT, then Speech and Language Therapist, no communication to let me know how this went.

Then we had an Eycat assessment at BGH. This is supposed to be the final assessment but we hadn't had the medical peadiatrics appointment, this came later.

We then received an appointment with a doctor at ambulatory care, where our daughter was diagnosed with Autism. The doctor explained a lot and was very informative about the diagnosis. They gave us a booklet of 82 pages and sent on our way and was told we would receive a report within 6 weeks.

From April to December 2024 we had no communication, even though I called doctors to ask if we had report.

In December we had an appointment and it got cancelled till January.

When we attended this appointment, the doctor was up aware of the diagnosis, still no report. Phoned my health visitor again to ask and they confirmed no report, even though they had tried to contact the correct person to ask for this.

In April 2025, a year after our daughter's diagnosis and still no report.

I call our local health board to get health visitor to call us back, which they did to give us the same information that there was no report.

15 months later and still have no report, I could understand had it all been done in the 1 day but this has been over a period of time.

Our daughter start primary 1 after the summer and she isn't going to receive the support she needs without this report.

NHS Borders has had over a year to get this report on file and sent to me and still I have nothing.

Thank you Aw1995 for sharing your experience with us.

I am sorry to hear you have had such a poor experience within the Paediatric Service.

It would be extremely helpful if you could provide me with some details of your daughter so we can look into what has happened/who you have been dealing with. This will give us the information we would need to help deal with your concerns and I can ask the appropriate people to get in touch with you.

If you could email me with your daughter's name and date of birth I can ask the appropriate staff to look into this for you.

Kind regards

Claire
