My dad was taken in as an emergency. Very bad empathy in A&E from the health care assistant and nurse. Really awful. Dad is 88 and was absolutely terrified and distraught. The two ladies who cared for him were either on their phone, whispering to each other and basically dismissing his anxiety. This is a man who has worked all his life and should get some dignity and respect in his twilight years. Dr was ok, and when he went to the ward the staff were amazing. But this was absolutely awful I hate to complain and did message patient liaison service when I was there but to date no response. Hence the review here. No apology from the staff they could see how upset we were. I really struggle to understand their attitude. We were not demanding at all. Really really bad. It was the bays in the emergency department (majors) one lady was waiting to go to the toilet for 9 hours. Really bad. and no response from patient liaison makes it even worse. Sorry to put this review on but hopefully it will make the hospital try and improve and keep an eye on staff who have mobile phones especially in a and e. The health care assistant could easily go and check on patients instead of scrolling whilst on duty. I think that should be mandatory, although drs on call need their phones? surely the health care assistants do not. and they need to improve on their patient care and empathy. it would go a lot to helping relatives and patients.
