I recently found out at my 11 week scan I had a missed miscarriage, the heartbeat had stopped at 8 weeks 2 days. This alone was a distressing time. The staff in the Vale of Leven maternity unit where great. Although I had to come back one week later for another scan due to 2 staff members having to confirm there was no heartbeat. I was then given the options on how to manage the miscarriage, which I picked mva. I was then told I'd have to wait a further 3 weeks to have this procedure done.
The waiting time from finding out your baby has had no heartbeat already for 2 weeks to then having to wait another 3 on top of that for the procedure is very distressing, heartbreaking and has affected me mentally as well. I feel there should be a quicker option for these procedures to be carried out a lot sooner.
For my mva procedure I had to attend the Queen Elizabeth hospital. The care and kindness shown from the 3 staff members in there was incredible. They made me feel so at ease during a very traumatic and sad time. Which made the procedure a lot more bearable and comfortable knowing they were there.
Changes have to be made so women are not suffering these long waiting times and can come to terms with the loss a lot sooner.
"There should be a quicker option"
