"Sexual health check after new partner"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as the patient),

I was nervous about attending but the Nurse quickly put me at ease. She asked some very personal questions about my sexual activity but I realized it was necessary.

She said she could remove my coil today. I was 63 yrs old!

I was at the clinic as my fairly new partner said he had an itchy penis and that we both should get checked for STIs.

I did a urine sample and then the nurse explained what would happen . She got another nurse in to help if it proved difficult to remove the mirina coil . In fact it was easy so no help was needed. The nurse examined me and took swabs and then she took a blood sample for the remaining STIs. She did say from my sexual activity and lack of symptoms and her examination it was unlikely that I had an STI and that my partner should see his own GP as she thought it might be Balinitus which is not an STI !

A few days later I got a text to say all the tests for STIs were clear. I was very relieved and it felt good to have a clean bill of health!

I answer phone calls from patients, book their appointments, find answers to their questions through liaising with clinicians, welcome patients and help where necessary. Plus admin duties.

Hi hippofm55,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a positive response to your visit here at Devon Sexual Health. We do take every care to support our patients going through, what we appreciate, can be very sensitive examinations and treatments.

As a team we are so happy that what sounded like a worrying and maybe complicated procedure was carried out with compassion and professionalism and more importantly that your mind has been put at ease on these matters.

I will definitely pass your kind words onto our team.
