I recently visited my GP as I was looking for assistance with excessive drinking. I had tried several times to cut my alcohol consumption without success. I am a very private person and I had to pluck up the courage to seek help.
I visited the GP to ask if there was any medication available to help. I was told that she couldn't help with any medication and only offered a link to drug and alcohol abuse support groups.
There was no offer of blood test to check liver function or anything else. I had researched prior to my visit and the NHS website did state there are medications that can help and to visit GP which is why I did. I feel completely let down and will not bother asking for help again. I am not a regular visitor to the GP and only visit if completely necessary.
