I did not feel happy with my experience. I attended following my GP suggesting I may have a stress fracture. Walking and exercising is painful, so the problem is impacting on my day to day life. My GP had referred me for an x-ray, suspecting a possible stress fracture, however, informed me that there is a long wait for the x-ray as well as the results.
So I thought I’d go along to MIU to confirm/disconfirm a stress fracture. However, I was called in at 4:45pm (I’m aware x-ray is only available until 5pm), was told I can walk ok on it, that it’s not an injury, and therefore doesn’t qualify for an x-ray.
However, what disappointed me most was the suggestion that it’s gout. The clinician admitted that I am a little young, but stuck with this theory despite my pain not being where gout usually presents, the causes e.g diet not applying and there being no family history of it. I shared that I was not convinced of this at all. It felt to me like it was pulled from nowhere, to tick one more person off the waiting list and essentially not listen to me.
On a positive note, I would like to say the member of staff on reception is a credit to the service. Whilst waiting I observed them being very warm, friendly, helpful and going above and beyond for patients.
