My daughter was admitted for day surgery, and the care we received from the moment we arrived at 1B to our discharge from ward 1A was truly outstanding.
Every member of staff—from the admin and medical secretaries to the anaesthetists, nurses, surgeons, auxiliaries, surgical team, play workers, and many others—was incredibly nurturing, kind, and caring. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and supported throughout. We were even brought a cup of tea while we waited, which was such a thoughtful gesture.
Although the operation naturally made us feel anxious, the professionalism and warmth of the entire team helped put our minds at ease. Thanks to their compassion and expertise, both my daughter and the rest of us felt safe, reassured, and genuinely well cared for.
What my daughter, and we, appreciated -
- the waiting room for older kids in ward 1B. We played dominoes, cards and watched a DVD while we waited.
- the fabulous play workers who brought her crafts.
- ice lollies!
- the warmth and nurturing staff in all roles.
- wait times - we knew there would be waiting around but the facilities and play workers helped. And we didn’t have to wait long to see various members of the team when we arrived. After a short wait we saw the anaesthetist, then surgeon then nurse.
- the pager which we carried while she was in surgery and which buzzed when they were ready for us to head to recovery to see her.
A special mention to Chris on ward 1A. What an asset to the team - kind, caring and put my daughter and us at ease. And a real sense that nothing was too much.
"The care we received was truly outstanding"
